The DUPR Rating

With DUPR’s rating, all new players start as NR (Not Rated) and progress through a scale ranging from 2.000 to 8.000. Your rating updates automatically every time a result is shared.

How DUPR is Calculated

Every match counts toward your rating, even if you are playing against someone who is unrated or new to DUPR. Your DUPR automatically updates every time a match result is shared. Players can have both a singles and doubles rating.

Performance

If you win, your rating will go up. If you lose, your rating will go down. Winning by a large margin increases your rating more than a tight match. Winning against players rated at or above your level increases your rating more than winning against players rated below you.

Frequency of Play

Players with more matches will see less fluctuation in their ratings compared to those with fewer matches. Recent matches impact your rating more than older matches.

Type of Competition

Different types of matches count more towards your rating. For example, recreational matches have less of an impact on your rating, while DUPR club matches and director uploaded tournaments have more of an impact.

How does the Doubles rating work?

The algorithm looks at the DUPR ratings of both players to create a “team rating”, which is the average of each player’s DUPR. It then compares the two team ratings to create a win probability for each team for the match.

The team that wins will go up, the amount increasing as the team’s win probability decreases. The match will impact each player differently, depending on their match count and the recency of those matches.

Reliability Score

You will see two numbers on your player profile for both Doubles and Singles, your DUPR rating (2.000 - 8.000) and your Reliability Score (1-100%).

Your DUPR rating reflects your skill level from match results, while the reliability score indicates how dependable your rating is. If you have very few or outdated matches in DUPR, your reliability score will be low due to insufficient or outdated data. To ensure your true skill level is reflected in your DUPR rating, play frequently and log your matches to keep your rating healthy.

A Real Time View of Your Skill Level

Your rating updates automatically every time a match result is shared with DUPR. Every type of match - club, tournament, league and recreational - can count for your rating.

DUPR club matches and tournament matches from our partners have the most impact on your rating. Recreational matches may be added manually using DUPR’s “Add a Match” feature. All players must validate the score for it to take effect. Recreational matches have less of an impact on your rating. DUPR takes player integrity very seriously and will penalize community members who report false information.
