Malaysia Is Ready. Are You?
The energy is undeniable. Pickleball in Malaysia has erupted—and it’s about to be on full display.
This Friday, April 25, the Alliance Bank KL Open Pickleball Championship 2025 kicks off at the iconic Pickle Social Club in Kuala Lumpur, the country’s pickleball epicenter. The 3-day tournament will welcome 648 players from 13 countries across 12 categories, making it the largest pickleball tournament in Malaysia's history.
The event isn’t just a celebration of pickleball—it’s a testament to how far Malaysia has come.
Malaysia's Pickleball Boom
- 3rd in the world for total number of DUPR users
- 2nd fastest-growing country globally.
- Kuala Lumpur ranks #2 in fastest-growing DUPR cities worldwide
- Nearly 300 DUPR clubs active across the country
- Over 1,500 courts and 200,000+ active players
DUPR isn’t just supporting Malaysia’s momentum—it’s helping drive it.
“DUPR coming up with the pickleball rating was a great way for people to play on their level and aspire to go further” said Samuel Siew, tournament organizer. “It has been a constant conversation among pickleball players asking each other ‘what's your DUPR?’ or ‘hey I'm 4.0 or 3.5’ and I think it's a great way to sort of help the community to find their own bubble, to find their own groups to play and improve and it just sets that whole road map for a player or aspiring player.”
Why It Matters
The Alliance Bank KL Open isn’t just another tournament. It represents a deeper shift:
- Players from 13 different countries are flying in to compete
- Malaysia’s Youth & Sports Minister will attend the opening ceremony
- The event will run 12+ hours per day across three jam-packed days
- A Pickleball Summit will run concurrently, bringing together facility owners and sports leaders to discuss the business of the game
From local matches to international reach, DUPR is helping players unlock fair, competitive matches through accurate pickleball ratings, whether they’re entering an intermediate bracket or chasing a pro dream.
“Our player with the highest DUPR rating playing this tournament is Colin Wong. Colin is number #1 in Malaysia with a DUPR of 5.1, definitely a player to watch.”

What’s Next for Malaysia?
Malaysia is estimated to have 200,000 active pickleball players, 330 pickleball centers and around 1,500 pickleball courts. From cashback incentives to competitive visibility, Malaysia is building infrastructure that keeps players coming back.
More importantly, it’s building a community-driven model of growth.
“The reason this tournament filled up so fast?” Samuel smiled. “The community and the social part of it and that's the power of sports; you don't need to speak the same language or share the same religion. Through pickleball you connect with one another, you meet new friends, you become a little bit more competitive and you are more excited to play sports to get active.”
DUPR is proud to power the growth of pickleball—in Malaysia, in Southeast Asia, and around the world. This is just the beginning.
