Why DUPR?
Accurately finding opponents who are exactly at your skill level
A means to track progress for players looking to grow
Hedging against sandbagging in competitive play
How Is DUPR Calculated?
DUPR is a modified Elo algorithm that uses a player’s last rating to update their new rating. The algorithm considers three factors:
Getting Started
Depending on your Pickleball experience, there are two ways you can get your DUPR rating:
Previous Tournament Players (Claiming An Account)
If you’ve played a tournament before, it’s very likely that you already have a DUPR account floating around somewhere. When you go to sign up, you’ll have the option to find and claim your account. Simply find it, claim it, fill out the remaining signup info, and you’re good to go!
If someone has already claimed your account, you can chat with support here
New Players
If you’ve never played in a DUPR rated match before, you’ll notice that you have an “NR” or No Rating status - this means that we currently don’t have enough data on you to give you a rating, and you’ll need to go through what’s known as “Initialization”.
Upon playing your first match, you’ll begin your “initialization timer” of 7 days, where every match you play counts towards YOUR rating and does not affect the rating of others.
Players will remain in initialization until they reach 3 “points”, or the timer lapses. If a player is unable to reach 3 points by the end of 7 days, they will receive a “best guess” rating.
The value of a match is determined based on the familiarity of the players involved:
1 Point - If our new player is the only 'unknown' entity in a match.
0.5 Points - If the new player's teammate also does not have a rating, but the entire opponent team does.
0.25 Points - If the teammate has a rating, but one opponent still does not.
0.125 Points - When only one player in the entire match has a known rating.
0.0625 Points - In matches where every participant's rating is up in the air.
