St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Shock of Major League Pickleball (MLP) is proud to announce two major developments: the formation of teams for the 2025 season of Minor League Pickleball (MiLP), owned and operated by Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR), and the appointment of John Kleinschmidt as the franchise’s Director of Talent & MiLP Operations. These initiatives mark a significant step forward in the Shock’s mission to expand its footprint in all levels of professional and amateur pickleball, while fostering talent development and the pursuing championship culture.

The formation of multiple Shock MiLP teams makes the Shock the first MLP franchise to build an official presence in Minor League Pickleball. This initiative will launch with teams competing in multiple MiLP DUPR levels, creating a pathway for emerging players to refine their skills, compete under the Shock brand, and rise to the professional ranks of one of the league’s top franchises. The Shock plan to expand the program to encompass all MiLP DUPR levels, and establish a comprehensive

network of players and fans – all united under the Shock banner.

“This is a monumental step for the St. Louis Shock and the sport of pickleball,” said Andrew Haines, Chief Operating Officer of the St. Louis Shock.

“By committing to Minor League Pickleball, we’re not just investing in the future of our franchise but also in the future of pickleball itself. This initiative will allow us to spotlight the best emerging talent in the sport, create meaningful connections within the community, and provide opportunities for players at every level to grow their skills and affiliation with the Shock.”

To oversee the new initiative and to help elevate players to their highest level, the Shock welcome St. Louis native John Kleinschmidt. John is a Senior Pro Player and nationally recognized competitor, who has won Gold at the highest levels, including multiple medal finishes at the Pickleball US Open. Kleinschmidt is also a IPTPA Level 2 and NPA Certified Instructor with over six years of coaching experience.

“We are thrilled to announce this MiLP initiative – a first for MLP teams – and welcome John to the Shock family in this pivotal role,”

said Ross Chaifetz, the Owner, General Manager, and Vice Chairman of the St. Louis Shock. “John’s experience as a Senior Pro player, instructor, and member of the St. Louis community makes him the ideal leader to oversee our Minor League Pickleball program and develop the best up-and-coming talents in the sport. His commitment to growing the sport aligns

perfectly with our vision, and our desire to be best-in-class for everything we do.”

As Director of Talent & MiLP Operations, Kleinschmidt will oversee the operations of the Shock’s MiLP teams, which will feature:
